Monkeys: A Primate Story

Monkeys! A Primate Story was a major family-friendly touring exhibition exploring the fascinating world of primates. Presented within an immersive, multi-sensory and specimen-rich environment, the exhibition brought innovative taxidermy to life and invited visitors to meet both their primate ancestors and today’s apes and monkeys.

The exhibition first opened at the National Museum of Scotland before embarking on a hugely successful international tour to seven further museums across six countries in Europe and Australia, reaching over 600,000 visitors.

The exhibition was curated by National Museums Scotland, and designed, produced and toured exclusively by Nomad Exhibitions.

A first of its kind, Monkeys! featured more than 60 spectacular taxidermy specimens and explored the extraordinary diversity of primates from the tiny mouse lemur to the mighty gorilla, examining how they live, move, eat, play and interact, and how they evolved and adapted over time. It investigated the relationship between humans and primates, including the threats of extinction, habitat loss and hunting.
